Live Webinar
Many clinicians who are newly trained in Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy, as well as those who have been trained for a while, feel excited about introducing DBR Therapy to their practices and clients, but can often become overwhelmed by the neuroanatomy, let alone the actual process of “doing” DBR. DBR clinicians may feel lost, unsure of “where they are” in the sequence, all whilst trying to stay at a deep colliculuar level, mindfully tracking the “dance” of staying deep in the Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy work, as opposed to “going upper level” themselves. In addition, with DBR as an emerging trauma processing therapy, clinicians may also inadvertently still find themselves engaging in “trance dances” with their clients, whereby transference/countertransference dynamics can contribute to clinical impasses, reenactments, as well as vicarious traumatization, burnout, and ethical dilemmas for clinicians.
This live web-based experiential is designed to help DBR Therapists feel more empowered in their Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy work, as well as to augment their learning, from the bottom up, as opposed to solely from the top down. Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy therapists undergo a bottom-up consultation experience, observing and practicing Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy with support, whereby an emphasis is on addressing “what’s in the room” as a way into processing. DBR Therapists will have the opportunity to explore the ethical and practical impact of how “trance dances” with clients can impact DBR trauma processing as well as the clinician’s collicular level of presence. Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy clinicians will also explore the midbrain sequencing associated with attachment-related ruptures between client and therapist, and how these moments can be conceptualized as opportunities to deepen the therapeutic experience, alongside the therapist’s “use of self.”
Participants in this experiential series will also have the chance to witness live demonstration(s) of Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy as well as to review both the process and the content to understand not only the neuroanatomical sequencing, but also critical “choice points” that require a DBR therapist’s collicular presence. As a result, Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy therapists can be better equipped to prevent learning gaps and enhance their confidence in utilizing Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy as an emerging therapy.
Therapists work under supervision to conduct the application of Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) Therapy concepts in real-time in an experiential format. To help apply theory and practice, trainees will receive direct behavioral observation and feedback while they work on real-life experiences. To achieve the goals of the practice, sessions may be conducted in dyads or triads. The ratio of trainer to trainee will not exceed 1:10 to allow for direct behavioral observation of each trainee in real time.
Presenter Bio:
Sarah Jenkins, LPC, CPsychol is an EMDRIA-approved EMDR Trainer and Consultant, the creator of EquiLateral™ aka EquiLateral: The Equine Assisted EMDR Protocol®, is also credentialed as a Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol) by the British Psychological Society, and is licensed in Arizona, where her private practice is located. She provides consultation and training, both in and outside of the US, for those providing complex trauma and dissociation treatment, including via EMDR therapy, Structural Dissociation Theory, EA-EMDR, and DBR therapy. Endorsed by Dr. Frank Corrigan, the creator of DBR therapy, as a DBR Consultant, Sarah also receives ongoing consultation on her DBR consulting services directly from him.
In addition, through her experience in both EMDR and Equine Assisted Therapy, she offers support for those therapists seeking to expand their skills in utilizing interweaves from the perspective of an animal-assisted approach, especially in their work with complex clients, such as in EMDR Therapy and DBR therapy. Sarah has also published with the European Scientific Journal on Equine-Assisted EMDR, DBR Therapy, and the Introduction of Animal-Assisted Interweaves.
