Trauma Informed Yoga in Schools

In this engaging and experiential workshop, participants will explore how trauma-informed yoga can be integrated into therapy and school settings as a powerful tool to help children heal, grow, and build resilience. This interactive training equips educators, school counselors and mental health professionals with the knowledge and practical skills to create safe, supportive spaces through yoga, allowing children to reconnect with their bodies, increase self-awareness, and develop self-regulation strategies. Through a blend of lecture, discussion, and hands-on practice, attendees will learn how to integrate yoga-based interventions into classroom routines and social-emotional learning (SEL) programs to meet the needs of students with trauma histories.
Presenter Bio:
Christine Mark-Griffin is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher, certified EMDR therapist and EMDRIA approved consultant. She is the founder of Spark All Wellness, a private practice specializing in EMDR therapy with children, EMDR consultation for clinicians and trauma informed training for professional organizations. Christine is also the founder of EMDR For Kids, where the mission is to empower therapists, parents, and children of all ages with resources, tools, and training to overcome trauma & adversities. In the past decade, Christine’s professional experience has included working in non-profit, child welfare, juvenile justice, community mental health, school-based mental health and higher education settings. Working in these various settings over the years has deepened her knowledge and understanding of complex trauma but has also exposed her to some of the most beautiful stories of healing and resilience. Christine lives in San Francisco with her husband, two children and dog. The things that make her happiest include her family and friends, a good cup of coffee, baked goods, yoga, traveling, cycling, music & dancing.

Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
1. Describe the impact of trauma on the developing nervous system and how trauma can affect a child’s ability to regulate emotions and behaviors.
2. Identify key principles of trauma-informed yoga, including creating safety, offering choice, and fostering a sense of empowerment for children.
3. Distinguish common yoga practices and poses to be trauma-sensitive and developmentally appropriate for different age groups.
4. Recognize mindfulness and breathwork techniques to promote self-regulation and resilience in children.
