EMDR Basic Training Part 1 Virtual with Bill White, LCSW

EMDR is based on the concept that the brain is able to heal from emotional wounds through information processing. EMDR is an approach to psychotherapy that has continued to offer countless individuals the opportunity to achieve therapeutic goals and give them the tools for leading happier lives which are no longer influenced by past disturbing events. However, when one experiences events under traumatic or repeated disturbing circumstances, this information processing system can break down resulting in pathology. EMDR helps jumpstart that information processing which promotes the client’s ability to resolve the experience and learn from it.
This course is taught in 2 parts. Students will complete 50 hours of education while learning EMDR.
Part 1 consists of 10 hours of lecture, 10 hours of supervised practice exercises, and 5 hours of consultation. Part 2 consists of the same number of hours for a total of 50 hours.
Part 1 – 20 Hours of Training
The goal of the first part is to familiarize the client with the basics of the EMDR procedural steps and protocol. Through this instruction the student will obtain the necessary knowledge and skills to begin the use of EMDR in his/her practice.
Presenter Bio:
Bill White, LCSW
Bill White, LCSW received his BA in Psychology from LSU and his MSSW from the University of Tennessee.
Mr. White was originally trained in EMDR Part 1 in March 1996 by Dr. Gerald Puk. Mr. White went on to complete his part two training in September 1996 under Dr. Francine Shapiro. Mr. White has 29 years of experience in utilizing EMDR therapy. He was also on the faculty of the EMDR institute from 1999 through 2013. In addition, he also served on the faculty for the humanitarian assistance program (HAP) for about five years. He has been teaching EMDR therapy privately since 2014. He is a member of the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). In the years he has taught he has taught clinicians at clinics as well as individuals. Many of his students have gone on to complete certification in EMDR in addition to completing the basic training. He has taught clinicians at Trillium Mental Health Services in Oregon, Louisiana Methodist Children’s Home, Agape West Texas, Covenant House New Orleans, New York, and Houston. He also has training from and is member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD) where he had completed training in Complex PTSD and Dissociation in Children and Adolescence. He also completed courses in Complex PTSD and Dissociation in adults. Overall, Mr. White has 35 years of experience in treating complex presentations of PTSD and dissociation as well as personality disorders. The part 2 EMDR course he has written reflects this training and that emphasis.

- Demonstrate the application of phase 3, assessment.
- Explain phase 4 desensitization.
- Demonstrate how to conduct phase 5 Installation.
- Demonstrate phase 6 body scan.
- Demonstrate and conduct phase 7 closure.
- Explain phase 8 reevaluation.
- Summarize the three-pronged approach of EMDR.
- Explain the application of EMDR in the treatment of children.
- Summarize recent event protocols for EMDR.
