“Finding Safety within: A way to Navigate and Soothe Anxiety” is a 1.5 CE program aimed to help clinicians normalize and soothe anxiety. The course will review anxiety’s purpose, benefits, and how to help clients recognize when anxiety is no longer beneficial. The course will review the Autonomic Nervous System and how the body specifically responds when under threat. Compassion Focused-Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Art Therapy are introduced as therapeutic modalities to address anxiety. Participants will learn how to use mindfulness techniques and art-making to reduce anxiety symptoms, and will further participant confidence in using these interventions in their own practice.
Presenter Bios:
Sigal Govrin is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas, and a Registered and Board-Certified Art Therapist. She graduated from Seton Hil University in 2013 with a Masters in Art Therapy, Counseling Specialization, and has been working with adult clients primarily in an outpatient setting providing individual therapy. She describes herself as having an “integrative style” which encompasses her knowledge in art therapy, mindfulness, CBT and other psychotherapy theories and approaches. Most recently Sigal has named a new “why” or purpose. She realized that without normalizing emotions and reducing shame and judgment, we cannot truly heal. This has been a great influence in developing CHW as the hope is to understand that we all have emotions that need support, and leaning into self-compassion is one of the greatest “antidotes” for reducing pain. When Sigal is not in the office you can find her working out, creating yummy art in the kitchen and exploring the amazing outdoors and cuisine of Austin, TX.
Danielle Gardea is a License Professional Counselor and Supervisor in the state of Texas and a Licensed Professional Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of New Mexico. She received her graduate degree at Our Lady of the Lake University in 2011 with a Master’s in Science in Counseling Psychology. Her education was formed on a strength-based approach, Solution-Focused Therapy, that focuses on the present and building on existing skills for change. With her years of experience primarily working with individuals, couples, and family in the outpatient setting, she grew to incorporate mindfulness and somatic awareness while connecting to the present and to the Self. Danielle learned that with the ability to grow more consciously aware of ourselves in the moment, with evidence-based interventions, we also build the ability to make decisions and actions more thoughtfully. Learning to connect with ourselves moment to moment with intention is on the foundations of CHW. For fun Danielle works on connecting with herself through yoga and mindfulness practices, being active, spending time outdoors camping or admiring the desert scape of west Texas and nurturing her many plants and dogs (also known as her children).
