Research has shown that EMDR may be utilized to assist with recovery from chemical and process addictions. The challenges with this population can be daunting, and for many years EMDR therapists were encouraged to wait to do any trauma work until the client had months of recovery. This perspective has been found to be untenable in that unprocessed material often fuels relapse, demonstrating the need for concurrent treatment of addiction and trauma. EMDR Addiction Focused Protocols can stabilize addiction and allow titration of trauma processing to improve outcomes for addiction clients. Participants will have 90 days to view the training.
Presenter Bio:
Julie Miller, MC, LPC, LISAC
EMDRIA Approved Basic and Advanced EMDR Trainer, an EMDR Institute Regional Trainer, an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, and certified EMDR therapist. Julie provides training through the EMDR Development Center. She is also the host of “The EMDR Maven Podcast” available wherever you get your podcasts!

2. Describe how to develop a treatment plan from the AIP perspective for addiction clients

4. Describe at least three specialized protocols for use with chemical and process addictions
5. Determine when to use a specific protocol
