This course will cover all you need to know to recognize, assess, refer, and treat eating disorders in your practice. We will start with an overview of eating disorders, with special emphasis on how to recognize eating disorders within anxiety, depression, OCD, and PTSD populations. We will review how to comprehensively assess eating disorders, including identifying severity and the appropriate level of treatment care needed. We will discuss when to treat eating disorders and disordered eating and when to refer to eating disorder specialty providers.
The second half of the course will cover overviews of specific evidence-based treatments for eating disorders and include role play and discussion. We will discuss family-based therapy for adolescents, cognitive-behavior therapy enhanced for adult eating disorders, and third-wave treatments including dialectical behavior therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy. Finally, we will spend time learning new evidence-based treatments for eating disorders using exposure therapy focused on eating disorder fears. We will also discuss new advances in digital personalized treatment therapeutics that can be integrated into active practices.
