Course Description
This extensive and in depth course is based upon the most current guidelines for the treatment of patients with Panic Disorder developed by the American Psychiatric Association (APA). The guideline has been developed by researchers and psychiatrists who are active in clinical practice. The guidelines were developed through a rigorous process that included a comprehensive literature review, the development of evidence tables, multiple drafts that received extensive peer review by 29 organizations and 80 individuals and was finally approved by the APA Assembly.
This guideline includes detailed treatment recommendations as well as thorough background information and review of the available evidence. The treatment recommendations include psychiatric management, the formulation and implementation of a treatment plan and maintaining or discontinuing treatment after response. Background information includes a disease definition, the natural history and the epidemiology of Panic Disorder. The article goes on to review and synthesize the available evidence on the treatment of Panic Disorder. It reviews the measurement of outcomes and issues in study design and interpretation. Specific psychosocial interventions are also reviewed.
This article is well written, but extremely detailed and in depth. This course is an excellent reference for nurses, psychologists, social workers and other the mental health professionals who work with patients who have Panic Disorder
