Course Description: This course presents an applied overview of nine foundational cybersecurity best practices as developed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). Participants will explore why cybersecurity is critical for individuals, businesses, and public-sector entities, and will examine both essential and advanced protective behaviors. Content covers the four core cybersecurity behaviors — software updates, strong passwords, multifactor authentication, and phishing recognition — as well as more advanced measures including logging and monitoring, data backup using the 3-2-1 rule, and encryption of data at rest and in transit. The course also addresses incident reporting to CISA, the use of .gov domains for government entities, and available CISA tools and resources. Throughout, participants will gain practical, immediately applicable strategies for reducing cyber risk across clinical and organizational settings.

This course on cybersecurity best practices is designed employees and staff. It is based on a short video. This course is appropriate for beginning practitioners who wish to learn about cybersecurity risk reduction and organizational data protection. This course does not offer any CEs.

Authors: Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency
