credit limit =
total earned credit = +

Course Description: This 6-hour continuing professional development course is designed to meet the California Board of Behavioral Sciences licensure renewal requirement for law and ethics training. The Board mandates that all licensed social workers complete 6 hours of continuing education in law and ethics during each renewal cycle.

The course is divided into two sections. The first provides a comprehensive update on recent changes to California laws affecting the practice of social work, including revisions to supervision regulations and continuing professional development (CPD) standards. Marriage and Family Therapists will learn how these legal updates affect day-to-day clinical practice and professional responsibilities.

The second section offers a review of the AAMFT Code of Ethics. This portion revisits foundational ethical principles and standards relevant to professional roles in scientific, clinical, educational, and consulting contexts. Whether youre early in your career or a seasoned professional, this ethics refresher reinforces the core values guiding ethical decision-making in social work.

This course is designed to meet license renewal requirements and therefore, is suitable for clinicians at the beginner, intermediate, or advanced level.

Learning Objectives: This course will provide a Marriage and Family Therapist with a review of California law and ethics. Specifically, a psychologist will able to:

  • Identify updates in the AAMFT code of ethics
  • Summarize the ethical standards to which Marriage and Family Therapists must adhere
  • Identify California law regarding the practice of marriage and family therapy
  • Describe changes in the law that apply to licensed Marriage and Family Therapists
