Course Description:
This continuing education course reviews federal confidentiality protections for substance use disorder (SUD) treatment records under 42 CFR Part 2, including the 2024 Final Rule modifications aligning Part 2 with HIPAA and HITECH provisions. Participants will examine definitions of federally assisted programs, the meaning of ‘holds itself out,’ consent requirements, redisclosure rules, penalties, patient rights, breach notification standards, and enforcement timelines. The course emphasizes practical compliance steps for SUD providers, general medical facilities, and lawful holders of SUD records.
