Course Description:
This continuing education course is based on the CDC Sexually Transmitted Infections Treatment Guidelines (2021) regarding HIV infection detection, counseling, referral, and management. Participants will review the natural course of HIV infection, recommended screening practices, diagnostic testing algorithms, acute HIV considerations, antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation, partner services, and special considerations in pregnancy. The course also addresses linkage to care, prevention counseling, and the role of STI clinics in identifying and managing HIV infection. This training is appropriate for healthcare and behavioral health professionals who provide STI evaluation, testing, or referral services.

Learning Objectives: This course will provide a professional with detailed information about HIV infection, counseling and referral. Specifically the practitioner will:
- Identify the stages of HIV infection and explain the significance of viral load and CD4 counts.
- Describe primary methods of HIV and HCV transmission and evidence-based prevention strategies including ART, PrEP, PEP, and TasP.
- Explain the basics of STI transmission, testing, treatment options, and confidentiality considerations in clinical practice.
