Course Description: The Transgender Cultural Competency Training Project was developed to address disparities in access to services for HIV-positive transgender clients and to assist providers in improving the delivery of services to the transgender community. Transgender persons are less likely to maintain healthier behaviors due to barriers associated with low self-esteem, economic necessity, and substance use. This course is designed to assist providers to better serve the needs of their transgender clients. This course is based on material published by the San Francisco Department of Public Health and is available as an open-access article.
This course on best practice guidelines for treating transgender individuals with HIV and AIDS is designed for social workers, professional counselors, psychologists, nurses, and substance abuse counselors, who do clinical work. This course is appropriate for intermediate and advanced-level practitioners who wish to develop their understanding of HIV and AIDS in the transgender community. The course material includes a review of best practice standards and measures. It may also be useful for licensed clinicians who require clinical continuing education courses for license renewal.
