Suicide Risk Assessment for Recovery Residences

Course Description:

This introductory-level course presents a reference guide as well as specific information on suicide ideation and its warning signs. The participant will be able to identify warning signs as well as factors that may increase or decrease the risk for suicide and how to respond to suicide risk. The participant will also be able to recognize immediate psychopharmacological interventions. This course has been updated with new information.  The updated content includes epidemiological data, general risk factors, risk factors associated with serious mental illness, and protective factors. In addition, the course content describes best practice guidelines for suicide risk assessment and provides links to valid and reliable assessment tools for brief screening and standardized clinical assessments.

 

 

 

This course on suicide risk assessment is designed for peer support counselors, recovery residence administrators, substance abuse counselors, and paraprofessionals who want to work in substance abuse treatment. This course is appropriate for beginning-level practitioners.

Learning Objectives: This course will provide the practitioner with detailed information regarding suicide risk assessment.  Specifically, a professional will:

  • Describe warning signs for suicide risk
  • Identify factors that increase or decrease the risk for suicide
  • Recognize psychopharmacological interventions for suicidal risk
