Course Description: Treatment Approaches for Drug Addiction discusses effective treatment approaches for drug abuse and addiction. Principles and components of effective treatment are discussed, including medications, behavioral counseling, and co-occurring conditions. Inpatient and outpatient settings for treatment are compared and contrasted, and the special challenges of treating criminal justice-involved addicts are discussed.
This course is based upon material published in the Drug Facts series from the National Institute on Drug Abuse and is available as an open access article.
This course on drug addiction treatment is designed for substance abuse counselors, peer support specialists and recovery residence administrators. This course is appropriate for beginning level practitioners who wish to develop their understanding of approaches to the treatment of drug addiction. The course material includes research findings related to effective treatment approaches.
