Course Description:
This article examines Anxiety and Mental Health in Adults. The article reviews the types of Anxiety disorders in adults and describes the etiology of Anxiety disorders in adults. Finally, it identifies the treatment approaches for anxiety in adults. This course is based on a portion of chapter four of a publication by the Surgeon General’s office entitled; Mental Health: A report by the Surgeon General. The report is also on the SAMSHA website. Mental Health: A Report of the Surgeon General.
This is a detailed article that at times can be difficult to read. This occurs during the complex discussions about the functions of the brain and pharmacological treatments for anxiety. This publication provides excellent information for the mental health professional, especially for those clinicians who work with adults and provides the practitioner with a great deal of much needed information. The course is targeted for beginning, intermediate and advanced practitioners.
Psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, and marriage and family therapists can benefit from this course. This course may also be helpful for other clinical practitioners such as midwives, dieticians and nutritionists who work with clients who may experience anxiety and be at risk for anxiety disorders. This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate and advanced level practitioners who need additional information about anxiety disorders in adults.
