Course Description:
This ce course is a compilation from many current sources designed to meet the license renewal requirements for social workers, therapists, psychologists, substance abuse counselors and other behavioral health professionals. It contains the latest information published by the National Institute of Health (NIH)Centers for Disease Control (CDC) on HIV and AIDS.
This course provides an introductory overview of HIV and AIDS for behavioral health and healthcare professionals. Participants will review the epidemiology of HIV in the United States, stages of infection, transmission routes, and current prevention strategies including PrEP, PEP, and Treatment as Prevention (TasP). The course examines HIV testing methods, window periods, and the importance of early diagnosis and linkage to care.
In addition, learners will explore antiretroviral therapy (ART), viral suppression, and the public health impact of the Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U) initiative. Ethical and legal considerations, including confidentiality protections, stigma reduction, and culturally responsive care, are addressed to support competent clinical practice.
This course equips professionals with evidence-based knowledge necessary to reduce risk, support clients living with HIV, and contribute to ongoing efforts to end the HIV epidemic.
This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to learn more about HIV. It is also a good resource for licensed therapists who need HIV and AIDS continuing education for license renewal.
