Course Description:
This course provides an overview of programmatic and administrative practices that will help behavioral health program administrators increase the capacity of their organizations to deliver Trauma-Informed Care in Behavioral Health Services.
This course focuses on key development activities that support staff members, including trauma-informed training and supervision, ethics, and boundaries pertinent to responding to traumatic stress, secondary trauma, and counselor self-care. Advice to Administrators and/or Supervisors boxes highlight more detailed information that supports the organizational implementation of trauma-informed care (TIC). In addition, case illustrations, organizational activities, and text boxes reinforce the material presented within this section. This course has been updated with additional information and is currently available on the VA website.
This course content is specifically designed for behavioral health administrators and is not a clinical course. This course is appropriate for intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to develop their program and administrative skills. It may also be useful for licensed clinicians who require NON-clinical continuing education courses for license renewal.
The course is based on a SAMHSA TIP and presents the collaborative efforts of some of the leaders in the field in both areas of research and treatment. It has been reviewed by both a panel of subject matter experts and field reviewers and as such presents state of the art information for best practices.
