Description: This course is based on 2 open-access scholarly articles and examines ethical boundaries, confidentiality, and legal risk management in mental health practice. Drawing from scholarly literature on boundary theory and contemporary guidance on confidentiality and ethical standards, this course explores the distinction between boundary crossings and boundary violations, the importance of context in ethical decision-making, licensing board considerations, documentation standards, and the management of confidentiality in clinical practice. Participants will strengthen their ability to apply ethical reasoning, reduce malpractice risk, and maintain therapeutic integrity while protecting client welfare.
This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate, and advanced-level practitioners who wish to learn more about ethics, boundaries and confidentialty. It is also a good resource for licensed therapists who need continuing education in ethics for license renewal.
