Course Description: Workplace injuries are among the most costly and preventable events facing organizations today. This course examines workplace safety from a multidimensional perspective, addressing the personal, financial, and legal consequences of occupational accidents. Participants will explore the two root causes of workplace accidents—unsafe conditions and unsafe acts—and learn practical, evidence-based strategies for identifying and correcting hazards, establishing accountability, and responding effectively when incidents occur. The course covers key regulatory frameworks including OSHA standards, personal and employer liability, the hierarchy of hazard controls, personal protective equipment, bloodborne pathogen precautions, electrical safety, slip and fall prevention, repetitive motion injury reduction, and ergonomic best practices. Participants will also examine the role of safety culture in sustaining injury-free workplaces over time.
This course on workplace safety is designed for social workers, professional counselors, psychologists, nurses, and substance abuse counselors, who do clinical work. This course is appropriate for intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to develop or increase their knowledge of workplace safety and occupational injury prevention. It may also be useful for licensed clinicians who require clinical continuing education courses for license renewal.
