This course is based on a publication by SAMHSA about addressing suicidal thoughts and behaviors in substance abuse treatment. This course provides an overview of treatment for suicidal patients by discussing the relationship between suicide and substance abuse, and by describing suicidal thoughts, behaviors, risk factors, and warning signs. This course also addresses the essential counseling skills needed for addressing suicidal clients. Additionally, a four-step process is described for addressing suicidal thoughts and behaviors in substance abuse treatment.
