Course Description

Crisis occurs all around us, mostly without notice or warning. Individuals and groups are often in need of specialized help in the immediate aftermath of a critical incident or traumatic event. Critical Incident Stress Management is the proven, tested, industry standard for providing that help.

Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) is a comprehensive, integrated, multi-compenent, systematic program of psycholigical first aid. The course of study is typically presented over a two full day period, beginning with a lecture on the first day covering an overview of the training, an introduction to the CISM approach, and key terms and concepts. The course continues with providing information on interventions with both small and large groups. Both days are devoted to lectures and practica. The lectures and practica enable the participant to learn and practice the skills associated CISM.

This course is designed for clinicians and administrators who work in both private and public, and urban and rural areas. Psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists can benefit from this course. This course may also be helpful for other practitioners who work with crisis management. This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to improve the skills in the area of crisis management.

Paul Schweinler is a Bd. Certified Expert in Traumatic Stress with over 9,000 hours of direct critical incident response in a wide array of contexts. He is an approved instructor for The International Criticial Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) and Clinical Director of the Broward Region X CISM Team.
