Course Description:

This Treatment Improvement Protocol provides an overview on the use of the three Food and Drug Administration-approved medications used to treat opioid use disorder – methadone, naltrexone, and buprenorphine – and the other strategies and services needed to support recovery.  Part One offers a general introduction to providing medications to address opioid use disorder.  It presents key facts and issues related to providing FDA-approved medications used to treat opioid use disorder.

This course is based upon material published in the SAMHSA Treatment Improvement Protocol 63 and is available as an open access article.

The course material includes a review of interventions.  It may also be useful for licensed clinicians who require clinical continuing education courses for license renewal.
