Course Description:

This course is based on a publication of the National Institute of Health (NIH) about preventing Alzheimer’s disease (AD).  It provides an overview of the risk factors which are within and beyond our control. It discusses pharmacological and non-pharmacological prevention strategies for AD.  This course also outlines directions for future research in Alzheimer’s disease prevention.  This course serves as an excellent resource for mental health professionals who would like to build or refresh their knowledge about preventing Alzheimer’s disease. 

 

Psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists can benefit from this course. This course may also be helpful for other practitioners, such as dieticians and nutritionists who may work with clients who are at risk for Alzheimer ’s disease.  This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate and advanced level practitioners who work with a geriatric or elderly population and who wish to develop their clinical skills in this area.
