Clinical Practice Guideline for Opioid Therapy for Chronic Pain by the VADoD
This course is based on a systematic review of both clinical and epidemiological evidence on the management of chronic pain. Developed by a panel of multidisciplinary experts, it provides a clear explanation of the logical relationships between various care options and health outcomes. Diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up are covered, with an eye to determining the best treatment methods in collaboration with the patient and his or her care team. Protocols to optimize health outcomes, function, and quality of life are stressed, as are strategies to minimize preventable complications and morbidity. The use of patient-centered care is emphasized.
This course is based upon material published by the Department of Veterans Affairs, United States Department of Defense and is available as an open access article.
