The Continuing Education Course held during our 2017 OH National Conference has the intended audience of Allied Health Professionals with relation to treatment for the disease of obesity. Psychologists, dietitians, and nutritionists at all skill levels (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) are invited to sign up for this afternoon course addressing weight loss and regain, psychological and nutritional aspects related, food addictions and cross addictions in pre-ops and post-ops, emotional stress-ors, and roadblocks that could occur. This complete course consists of four sessions led by dynamic professionals and upon completion, participants can visit ce-classes.com to register and be able to print their certificate of four CEU’s. Dr. Stapleton who is facilitating this course will provide you with the information needed to obtain your units. Licensed professionals will need to check with their regulatory board to determine course approval.

Psychological & Nutritional Aspects in Treating Your Patients for Weight Loss Surgery Success
Course Description: In this session, I will present a comprehensive review of metabolism and
obesity. In addition, I will address the treatment of obesity focusing on core issues that cause obesity in dealing with
physical and psychological issues. Also to be discussed is developing a rational approach to
successful treatment of this disease.
Session 3 with Dr. Connie Stapleton

Pre- and Post- Op Education and Management Related to Regain, Food Addiction, and Cross Addiction
Course Description: In this presentation, I will discuss the researched evidence related to regain
following bariatric surgery and the scientific information about motivation/loss of motivation. In
addition, evidence-based information related to therapeutic modalities shown to be effective in
sustaining weight loss and motivation will be addressed to include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,
Motivational Interviewing and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
The presentation will also present research on food addiction. In addition, the percentages of
post-op patients who struggle with addictions will be presented. Attendees will be made aware of
the issues related to bariatric patients and addictions to include theories related to the
development of addictions related to obesity.

My Therapist Doesn’t Get It
Course Description: This brief course is designed to enable professionals in the mental health
field to be able to better assist pre and post op, weight loss surgery (WLS) patients in an effort
to increase their overall chances of post-op success. Post op success is defined as; the ability to
maintain a healthy weight loss goal, postoperatively, over a prolonged period of time. The course
is designed to give such professionals an insider perspective on the
unique issues that this population faces.
