Course Description:

This introductory-level course presents basic bookkeeping concepts to enable the student to get started in keeping track of expenses and revenue.  Featured topics include general ledger accounts, journals, ledgers, debits and credits, double-entry, adjusting and reversing entries, very basic accounting principles, financial statements, common financial rations, bank reconciliation, payables and receivables, and internal controls.

This course on basic bookkeeping and reimbursable services is designed for peer support counselors, recovery residence administrators, substance abuse counselors, and paraprofessionals who want to work in substance abuse treatment. This course is appropriate for beginning level practitioners. The course material includes a checklist of both goals and evidentiary standards to be attained.

Learning Objectives: This course will provide the practitioner with detailed information regarding bookkeeping basics.  Specifically, a professional will:

  • Describe the utility of accounts, journals and ledgers
  • Identify debits and credits and how they are recorded
