Course Description:
This course is based on a publication by the National Institute of Mental Health that summarizes the prevalence rates of most mental illnesses in the United States. This document was recently revised in 2006 and provides the latest data on incidence and prevalence rates, median age of onset and age of first symptom presentation for major mental illnesses. It provides the mental health practitioner with a basic review and categorization of mental illness and up to date data on prevalence, including factors such as gender distribution of specific mental illnesses. This course is designed for both clinicians and administrators who work in private and public, and urban and rural areas.

Psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists can benefit from this course. This course may also be helpful for other practitioners, such as midwives and dieticians and nutritionists who work with a diverse client base.  This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to learn more about the incidence of multiple mental illnesses.
