Through decades of study and experimentation integrating the powerful research on neuroscience, trauma and attachment with the experiential methods Dr. Tian Dayton has developed a model of treatment for relational trauma and PTSD that can be easily integrated into existing programming as the experiential group component. Relational Trauma Repair (RTR) imparts the skills of emotional processing and self regulation as it gets group members up and out of their chairs and actively engaged in a relational healing process. RTR promotes sharing and bonding. It teaches clients about the symptoms of PTSD and relational trauma through a lively, interactive format that inspires and motivates clients to take ownership of their own healing. Using experiential methods in a trauma informed manner is a challenge that has been the focus of Dr. Dayton’s clinical research and practice for much of her thirty year career. She has created RTR so that clinicians with various levels of training can work at their own comfort level employing those exercises and approaches, whether a group warmup or The Trauma Time Line, that best suit their skill level. RTR can be used without psychodrama or can incorporate small role plays into its structured format.
