Course Description:
This course is based on the classic book by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. This book revolutionized the way mental health practitioners thought about death and dying. It is a seminal work in the field of palliative care. The book is both moving and informative. Although the stages of dying have become an integral part of every clinician’s training in human development, few have taken the time to read Kubler-Ross’s original work. It is well worth the effort. This course is targeted for beginner, intermediate and advanced practitioners.

Psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors and marriage and family therapists can benefit from this course. This course may also be helpful for other practitioners, such as midwives and dieticians and nutritionists who may work with clients who are terminally ill.  This course is appropriate for beginning, intermediate and advanced level practitioners who wish to learn more about palliative care, death and dying.

Learning Objectives: This course will provide a professional with in depth information about the typical responses individuals who are facing death. Specifically, a professional will:

  • Identify each emotional stage of the dying process
  • Recognize how the terminally ill and their family members respond during the dying process
  • Identify the specific therapeutic techniques to use when working with the terminally ill
